The Solivio family announced with deep sorrow the passing of former Surallah Mayor and South Cotabato 2nd District Board Member, Romulo “Mulong” O. Solivio Sr., this morning, March 27, in General Santos City.
Romulo O. Solivio Sr., fondly remembered as a devoted public servant, served Surallah as Mayor from 1998 to 2007 and again from 2010 to 2013. He later continued his commitment to governance as a Board Member of South Cotabato from 2013 to 2016 and 2016 to 2019.
Throughout his illustrious career, Solivio Sr. left a legacy of exemplary leadership that encompassed good governance, agricultural innovation, and environmental advocacy. Under his guidance, Surallah gained national recognition, receiving awards such as the Gawad Pamana ng Lahi and the prestigious Galing Pook Award.
He was a staunch advocate for the environment, most notably opposing large-scale coal mining projects—a stance that earned him the Allen S. Quimpo Climate Leadership for Governance Memorial Award. His dedication to sustainable practices also led him to champion agricultural advancements, establishing Surallah as the organic and biodynamic rice capital of the Philippines.
As a Board Member, Solivio Sr. authored the Organic Agriculture Ordinance of South Cotabato and remained a vocal advocate of the province’s “No to Open-pit Mining” campaign, showcasing his unwavering commitment to protecting South Cotabato's natural resources.
Just recently, on March 15, Solivio Sr. celebrated his 73rd birthday, surrounded by family and loved ones. His contributions to the community and his unwavering passion for service will forever be remembered.
