Teatro Ambahanon’s ‘The Last Quarter Intensives’ (LQI) will run from November 15-17, 2024, at Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Colleges (RMMC) Annex Studio.
This intensive program features dance performances, talks, and competitions aimed at fulfilling Teatro Ambahanon’s mission of artist development, audience building, and expanding their repertoire of contemporary dances.
Founder Leonardo Rey “Bing” Cariño announced the exciting lineup on his Facebook profile. The LQI programs include:
- Director’s Prize Competition (DP): Open to regular Teatro Ambahanon members, this competition allows choreographers to present their best pieces, integrating them into the Teatro Ambahanon repertoire and providing a platform with minimal financial and logistical concerns.
- Talk Back: This program offers a master-class-like critique of the dance projects submitted to the DP, led by a jury invited to adjudicate the competition.
- Callback: Invites Teatro Ambahanon members to propose new choreographic projects, offering logistical support and an audience base to showcase their work.
- Dance, Film, and Wine: Opens the LQI, exploring dance production through the medium of film.
- Liki: The Best of Teatro Ambahanon: A curated program featuring the group’s most innovative and experimental works, reflecting the Liki aesthetics and defining the Teatro Ambahanon style and philosophy.
LQI will open with “Liki6: The Best of Teatro Ambahanon” on November 15 at the Teatro Ambahanon Blackbox Theater at the RMMC Annex Studios. It features the best works from the past two years by Teatro Ambahanon choreographers, including Byuti Balaga’s multi-award-winning piece "Hampang," which was presented at the Cultural Center of the Philippines’ Culture and the Arts Summit.
Now in its 6th edition, Liki showcases works that embody brave and unconventional choreography, true to Teatro Ambahanon’s artistic direction. Admission to all LQI programs is free.
LQI, initially a series of intensive training sessions following the annual Summer Dance Workshops, involves full-time RMMC students. Dance training pauses during the academic term and resumes during the semestral break in the last quarter of the year.
LQI evolved into a festival when Ambahanon faced challenges with space for new choreographies. Embracing the theme “finding spaces for dance,” LQI became a platform where current members and alumni gather to present and workshop their choreographic works in various programs.
