Michael Stephen Pacquiao, the 22-year-old son of renowned boxer and reelectionist senator Manny Pacquiao, has officially submitted his certificate of candidacy (COC) for a councilor position in General Santos City.
Running under the People's Champ Movement, a local political party, Michael emphasized the importance of youth involvement in shaping the city's future, with a focus on education, youth empowerment, and sustainable development.
In an interview with GMA Regional TV's One Mindanao, Michael shared that while his father inspired him to enter politics, his decision was ultimately his own. He is the second child of the former senator.
Manny Pacquiao and his wife, Jinky, were present to support Michael during the filing of his COC, on Saturday, October 5.
The elder Pacquiao is also seeking reelection as part of President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos' Alyansa Para Sa Bagong Pilipinas senatorial slate.
Before venturing into politics, Michael pursued a career in hip-hop and rap music.
In a 2023 interview with GMA Integrated News podcast "Share Ko Lang," he mentioned that his parents were surprised by his decision to become a musician, but he found fulfillment in establishing his own identity beyond being the son of a boxing legend.
