As part of the Kalilangan Festival 2024 celebration, Kape Padayon and MC Events jointly organized the GenSan Coffee Brew Off competition. This event took place on February 29, 2024, at SM City General Santos.

The competition was designed to highlight the exceptional brewing skills of the 15 participating baristas and to enhance the coffee-drinking experience for consumers.

Hannah Rita Poliquit from Side Notes Coffee Co. emerged as the winner, followed by Dean Carl Elbinias of Bandit's Brew Co. in second place, and Cyrus Paul Cantos in third place.

The panel of judges for the competition consisted of esteemed Q Professionals: Ariel Lastica (Iloilo City), Julius Budlat (Butuan City), and Norzalon Unas (Davao City).

“The GenSan Coffee Brew Off was established to provide a venue for baristas in GenSan to showcase their skills and talents. The goal of this competition is to build relationships between café owners, baristas, and consumers. We understand that the coffee business has a lot to offer. Through collaborations, we can effectively raise awareness about the quality coffee from our homegrown brands,” said Kape Padayon owner Dan Christopher Timtim

In addition to the Coffee Brew Off, Kape Padayon and MC Events hosted a Barista Day event on February 20. Both of these events were integral parts of the Fiesta Bazaar, which was also part of the Kalilangan Festival 2024 celebration. The Fiesta Bazaar was held from February 20 to 29, 2024.

"Hosting a Fiesta Bazaar significantly benefits the growing businesses and MSMEs in our region," said Michael Andrew Carbon, the head of MC Events.

"This event serves as a platform for them to display their products and services to a broader audience, thereby enhancing their brand visibility. It's important to note that not all businesses have the financial capacity to afford mall rentals. The Bazaar offers these businesses much-needed exposure without imposing a substantial financial burden. In essence, it's a cost-effective marketing strategy that supports their growth and success."

They are eagerly anticipating the opportunity to host more coffee events in GenSan, in collaboration with other brands. They aim to provide sustainable support for the young, talented, and skilled baristas in the area. They are working to bring national events to GenSan.

"The collaborations between coffee brands will greatly contribute to the awareness of Quality Coffee. Behind each cup is a success story of coffee shop brands and their skillful baristas,” said Timtim

“Let’s take action to make a change. We are the value chain, from farmers to consumers."
