7th Tacurong Bird Festival Begins with Street Dancing and Float Parade

 


Tacurong City , Sultan Kudarat – The 7th Tacurong Bird Festival opened with a spectacular display of avian-inspired costumes and huge bird figures in the Sadsad sa Kadalanan Street Dancing and Float Parade competition on May 12, 2023.

The parade, which started at 7 a.m. along Alunan Highway, ended at the City Cultural and Sports Center for the opening salvo and Sadsad sa Kadalanan showdown.

The parade saw groups of performers dressed in avian-inspired costumes, dance and flap their colorful wings to the beat of the official bird festival soundtrack. The performers were followed by giant bird figures perched atop decorated floats. Six agencies in the city vied for first place in the float competition.

Local riders also had the chance to join the fun with their own Bird-inspired Tricycle and Bird-inspired Tricycle Sound competitions.

In the Float Competition, the Girl Scouts of the Philippines emerged as the champion, followed by the City Schools Division of Tacurong as first runner-up and the National Food Authority as second runner-up.

Meanwhile, in the Bird-inspired Tricycle competition, David Nonato, Jr. won first place, with Jorry Domingo and Errol Literal taking the first and second runner-up spots, respectively. In the Bird-inspired Trike Sound competition, Jeffrey Flores emerged as the champion, with Rommel Kamid and Jimmy Mangay-ayam as the first and second runner-ups, respectively.

In the afternoon, a forum on conservation was held to emphasize the significance of protecting and preserving bird populations within the city.

Three experts served as resource speakers: Carmela P. Española, an Associate Professor at the University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman; Forester Dirie P. Macabaning, Enforcement Division Chief of DENR 12; and Engr. Armin Hautea, Chief Tourism Operations Officer at DOT 12.
