CAAP welcomes inaugural Clark-GenSan flight

General Santos City – The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) welcomed the inaugural Clark-General Santos flight on Wednesday, April 26.

"We are glad to offer more travel options to the flying public, especially our kababayans to further promote tourism and economic growth in both cities," CAAP spokesperson Eric Apolonio said when sought for a comment.

He added that this is a manifestation of CAAP's commitment to ensure connectivity in air travel.

About 132 passengers were on board Cebu Pacific (CEB) flight 5J 1095 from Clark, Pampanga, arriving at the General Santos City Airport at 7:11 a.m., according to CAAP.

On the other hand, 136 passengers of CEB left General Santos for Clark at 8:17 a.m. The Clark-General Santos-Clark flights will be offered every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

With the additional route, the General Santos Airport -- which serves mainly the Soccsksargen, and a gateway to Mindanao -- now has 52 flights per week, CAAP said.

The Authority added that the airport will soon establish a passenger boarding bridge and drop off area to provide better accessibility as well as enhance the capacity to accommodate more passengers.

CAAP said the inaugural Clark-General Santos was attended by local government officials.

The CAAP remains committed to build more partnerships with airlines to further expand their network and serve the growing demand for air travel, it said. (Ma. Cristina Arayata/PNA)
